Rear main seal failure

Well.. another problem with the 2003 Accord EX-L.  Rear main seal went.  My wife and I had just returned from a short trip when I noticed burning oil smell.  On investigation I found a large amount of oil all over the under body of the car.  Just by looking I diagnosed this as a bad rear main seal.. I was pretty certain.  I contacted the dealer which I had purchased the car and who had purchased a 12 month 12 thousand mile warranty in my behalf after the first transmission miss hap.  The car was picked up the same night and delivered to the dealer.  They called the next day to ask about the problem.  I told them the rear main seal had gone.  They ask why I thought this and I told them because I am sure it was damaged when the transmission was replaced.  A few hours later I get a call back.. Great news! Its only a leaking oil pan seal.  I reluctantly agreed to that being the culprit even though I didn't think it was right.  Sure enough at the end of the day I get another call.  They repaired the oil pan but the rear main seal is leaking.

What fun!  Other then that.. I did some work to the old beater car.  The '92 got new tires on the stock wheels as well as a camber kit in the front and stand-off washers behind the rear UCA to take some negative camber out.  Shes now got 297,596 miles on the original engine and transmission.  More on this in a later blog.
