Last week I splurged on a blast cabinet and 50 pounds of garnet abrasive. I was a little worried it may be to harsh for the aluminum I wanted to use it on but it seems to be OK. I started pulling the engine on the cycle apart which had been painted by the previous owner. The paint is chipped and looking warn so the plan is to blast the parts. Some will stay aluminum such as the valve cover and bottom of the engine. The cylinder sleeves and head will get a coat of black and then be sanded so that the edges of the cooling fins show through. It should look pretty good once its finished.

This is the end result after a few minutes on the valve cover. Next its on to polishing.
